Acne
Rosacea & Skin Care
Type
of Rosacea Acne
Rosacea (rose-AY-sha)
is a long term disease of the skin. What causes this disease?
Does a natural treatment
exist? Will people
affected be able to use creams and other skin care products?
In fact, Rosacea represents redness and swelling of the skin.
It could be on the skin or on the back, chest, eyes, ears, neck and
even scalp.
At the
beginning the person may flush or blush easily. Then the
tendency is this blush to become persistent and pimples to occur, as well
as visible blood vessels on the nose, chin, forehead and
cheeks.
Because of
the swelling and redness rosacea can be mistaken for acne and
sunburn. The other name of the rosacea is “adult
acne”.
Rosacea has affected 14 million Americans between the age of 30 and
50 years old who have lighter skin, blond hair and blue eyes.
Anyway, people from any age can suffer from this skin
disease.
Rosacea can
be passed in the family and women are more affected to this
illness. Men suffer from more severe forms of rosacea. Women
are also affected in the menopause when increased flushing
and blushing may occur.
Some of the
famous people who suffer from rosacea are W.C. Fields and the
former president Bill Clinton. On some of their photos this
could be seen. According to the
Gallup survey, 78 percent of the Americans do not know that they
have the disease.
People
consider that the social and emotional effects of the rosacea
are worse than the physical symptoms. According to the
statistics 70 percent of the people said that they have lower
self esteem and confidence. And about forty one percent had
to avoid public contacts and cancel their social
engagements.
It is not known what the exact cause of rosacea is and
researchers give it to the heredity and environmental factors.
Sometimes the reason may be the swollen blood vessels.
Other
theory is that the reason is a mite that lives in the hair
follicles. Mites usually clog oil glands that lead to
rosacea. Other people believe that internal infection
produced by a bacterium called Helicobacter pylori could be
the reason.
The immune
system could also play important role in the development of
rosacea.
There are
four major types of acne rosacea grouped by common signs and
symptoms and divided by 17 medical experts.
-
The first
one is erythematotelangiectatic
rosacea. It is described by flushing and sometimes visible
blood vessels.
-
The
second subtype is papulopustular rosacea. It has persistent
redness and transient bumps and pimples.
-
The
other subtype is papulopustular rosacea. It forms excessive
tissue and skin thickening. As result of that is enlarged
nose.
-
The
last one is ocular rosacea. The characters are dry eyes,
tearing and burning, swollen eyelids, recurrent styes and a
potential for vision loss from the corneal
damage.
Most of the
patients usually have characteristics of more than one subgroup or
develop the characteristics in succession. People may develop some
characteristics and may not develop others. The symptoms may be
from mild, to moderate and even to severe. It is recommended early
diagnosis and treatment.
Patients
should check regularly their physician or doctor. They should clean their
skin with lukewarm water and clean their skin with non-abrasive
cleanser. They should use gentle and mild cotton towels and not
rough washcloth.
Patients
should use non irritating skin care products, creams and should protect their
skin with sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher.
Cosmetics can
be applied to conceal the effects of acne rosacea like skin-tone
foundation with yellow tints not the pink or orange
ones.
