The
truth about Herbal Remedies that work for
Acne
Are you looking for herbal
acne remedies? If
your answer to this question is yes, I hope it’s good to know you
are not alone. Many acne sufferers have always wanted to know how
to explain the fact that some people have to deal with this skin
disease early during their life while others don’t.
A lot of
theories try to explain the breakout of acne but some of them are
quite misleading. Acne is not caused by dirt or stress, neither by eating
too much chocolate as it
was thought years ago. It was discovered that the reason for acne
lies in the failure of the body to break down and metabolize
oil.
This was proved
once again by a trial conducted in
Singapore a few years ago. An article published by Lit-Hung Leung,
MD in the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine Vol. 12, Number 2,
1997 reveals that when the particular vitamin that is responsible
for the job of metabolizing the oil is needed by the body for a
different function – such as the development of the sex organs, for
example, – this vitamin is not enough in quantity to do both jobs.
This deficiency is the reason why acne often shows up at
puberty.
The trial done in Singapore included giving to acne sufferers 10
grams of pantothenic acid a day. The patients were required to take
the remedy in four equal doses while at the same time applying a
pantothenic cream to the acne.
The result was
impressive - within a few days there was a marked reduction in the
amount of sebum being secreted and after 2 weeks the acne started
to vanish or and less new pimples appeared. In most cases, the acne
was completely healed by the end of the second month.
There were some aspects of the treatment that were not even
expected - the enlarged pores of the face began to shrink and the
skin became much smoother and finer.
Another
important fact which the scientists discovered then was that: for
the adolescent patients, the maintenance dose was needed until the
sexual characteristics had been fully developed.
The fact itself
that pantothenic acid is found in all tissues of the body is an
indication of its importance. The efforts of the scientists ended
in developing many formulas to cure acne effectively.
A very important ingredient used in many of the over-the-counter
products for treating acne is Benzoyl peroxide. But remember to
read carefully the label to find out how much of this chemical is
actually in the product because larger quantities of it may cause
irritation.
That’s why when
you are trying products containing Benzoyl peroxide for the first
time, it is advisable to start off with the lowest dose which is
2.5%. Although this dose can also cause the skin to become dry and
irritated, this problem will mostly clear up after a few
days.
Unlike other
herbal and any kind of acne treatments these products are not meant
to be applied just on single zits so you should use them over the
whole area affected by acne.
There are also
herbal types of acne remedies that should be taken orally- such as
zinc gluconate. But for all of these herbal remedies the best thing
to do is consult a doctor first, so that you can be sure which one
will work best for your type of skin and acne.
